The Arts Council of Wales is delighted to announce a series of live Expressive Arts Masterclasses for post 16 learners.

Why not join on 10 June as Dean Ynhell explores Beatbox artform and Beat Technique. Dean will breakdown the processes involved in these art forms giving key insights and inside knowledge. The masterclass is open to anyone with an interest in rap and beatboxing, no previous experience is necessary.

On 17 June, join Aron Evans on a foray into animation. Learn how to produce your own animation loops and create GIFs for use on social media. The masterclass is open to anyone with an interest in animation, no previous experience is necessary. This Masterclass will be delivered in Welsh.

Join Matheus Prado in this Brazilian percussion masterclass where he will show how you can play a samba rhythm using objects found in the home.

 

You will learn the different family of instruments that take part and how to play each of them. Once you learn how they sound individually you can play along with the rest of the ensemble where you will notice how the different layers interact with each other.

 

There is no material requirement and you will use what is available in the home to emulate the real instruments.

 

Play alongs will be available to use after the masterclass.

Join Melissa Pasut and explore the rainforest in movement through imagery and creativity.

 

Experiment with movement and transforming your bodies through Japanese Butoh dance to experience the rainforest environment including the creatures and vegetation that exist there. Learners will have the freedom to move through their own styles and abilities through guided tasks and images. Playful and fun, young people will enjoy examining the breadth and life of the rainforest, from a single drop of water to a large furry mammal.

Create your own concertina book with artist Naz. Use it to document stories, sketches, doodles and thoughts.

 

Why not give those recycled and reclaimed materials (old papers, cereal boxes, maps, magazines and tea bags) a new lease of life?

 

What theme will you choose? Maybe a book of journeys or one for fairies in the garden. Perhaps you want to document the flowers or showcase your work as an artist. The possibilities are endless.

The masterclass employs household materials and tools; the techniques shown in the film can be used to make a variety of weird, wonderful and funny artworks, including costumes, sculptures and 3D pictures.

The only materials needed for the masterclass are A4 paper, pens and pencils. You will also need a smart phone or tablet loaded with the free app, Stop Motion. This is available in the App Store or in Android Play Store.

Morning Sun

Join Iola Ynyr for a scripting masterclass based on a painting by Edward Hopper called - ‘Morning Sun’.

 

The masterclass will explore, how to develop a character (based on the image); creating a monologue; ways to express self-isolation. Although the masterclass is centred around theatre and performance, the image could be used as a stimulant to create another image, develop creative writing or write an extract for film.

 

The masterclass is open to anyone with an interest in writing and performance, no previous experience is necessary. There will be the opportunity to ask questions during the live masterclass.

 

In preparation for this masterclass participants will need:

  • to be familiar with the painting
  • To collect 3 unconnected objects
  • a handful of the same objects e.g. gravel, rice
  • To find an object with a strong smell
  • Have plenty of paper and a pencil at the ready

Join Marion Webber as she guides you through the process of creating expressive, layered artworks, making print blocks, and adding prints without the need for a press.


 Marion will also give a short demonstration of simple stitch work that can be used to finish the piece and develop more ideas after the workshop.
