Cookies

A cookie is a small data file that is downloaded from certain websites.  If you personalise pages or save usernames and passwords, cookies will remember your settings.  There are two main types of cookie - 1st party (normally used by sites to track the things you look at and remember any settings you change) and 3rd party (used by advertising companies to target ads based on the things you look at).  You can find out more about what cookies are by clicking here.  

The CAVC Moodle uses one 1st Party cookie:

  • MoodleSession:  This cookie must be allowed for Moodle to work.  It is only used when you are logged in to Moodle or your browser is open.  It remembers your username between pages and provides a bit of consistency.  

If you want to delete or disable cookies, please follow the instructions below based on your browser.  Remember, if you disable cookies completely, Moodle won't work properly.
 

Internet Explorer

  1. Click on ‘Tools’ at the top of your browser
  2. Select ‘Internet Options’
  3. Click the ‘Privacy Tab’
  4. Set your Privacy level to Medium or below. This will enable cookies.

Firefox

  1. Click on ‘Tools’ or 'Firefox' at the top of your browser
  2. Select 'Options’
  3. Choose 'Privacy' 
  4. Under 'History' change 'Firefox will:' to 'Use custom settings for history'.
  5. Click the option you want to use:To delete current cookies, click 'Show Cookies'
    1. Accept cookies from sites - this will allow sites to add cookies
    2. Accept third party cookies - this will allow sites to add third party cookies.
  6. Either select the cookie(s) you want to remove and press 'Remove cookies' or press 'Remove all Cookies'.

Google Chrome

  1. Click on ‘Tools’ at the top of your browser
  2. Select ‘Settings’
  3. Find the ‘Privacy’ section
  4. Select ‘Content’ Settings
  5. Click the option you want to use.  To delete current cookies, click 'All cookies and site dataL:
    1.  Allow local data to be set - this will allow sites to add cookies
    2. Allow local data to be set for the current session only - cookes will only be set for this browsing session
    3. Block sites from setting any data - this will prevent sites from adding any cookies
  6. Either press 'Remove all' or search for a site and click the 'cross' icon on the left.
